Microsoft’s VS Code desktop requirements list supported Windows, macOS and Linux platforms. An Android APK using the VS Code name should not be assumed to be Microsoft’s official desktop editor. For lightweight browser editing, Microsoft documents VS Code for the Web at vscode.dev.

Official desktop and browser options
Check VS Code’s platform requirements when choosing a desktop download. For browser use, start with vscode.dev and Microsoft’s web-editor documentation. These are separate workflows from downloading an Android package from another distributor.
What can the web editor do?
The web editor supports browsing and lightweight editing, with limitations compared with a desktop or remote development environment. Microsoft notes that the browser-only experience does not supply a normal local terminal or debugger and that only some extensions work there. Mobile use is possible, but small screens impose limitations. Do not promise a complete Android build environment merely because the editor opens in a browser.
Editing a project is different from running it
Decide whether you need to view files, make a small change, compile a project or use a full runtime. Those tasks can need different tools. A syntax-highlighted editor does not by itself install an Android SDK or provide every language runtime. Use the official workflow appropriate for the project and platform.
Third-party Android wrappers and ports
If another developer offers a package around a code editor, identify that developer and its project source. Its signing, update path, permissions and support are separate from Microsoft’s product. Do not enter repository tokens, passwords or private source into an unidentified package because it displays the VS Code icon. A familiar name is not an identity check.
Choose a route for your actual task
For the Windows IDE and Android project outputs, see our Visual Studio and APK build guide. For saving or running Android packages on a computer, use the PC package guide. We do not supply a certified Microsoft Android APK or claim to have tested an unofficial port.
