Epic Games offered GTA V free during a limited promotion in May 2020. That announcement is historical, not proof of a current free offer. Epic’s original notice gave a claiming deadline of May 21, 2020 at 11 AM Eastern. An old “Get” screenshot or tutorial cannot establish today’s price or eligibility.
What the 2020 announcement actually said
The official Epic Mega Sale announcement, dated May 15, 2020, described a one-week GTA V giveaway. Players had to claim it through the official store during that window. The deadline matters: the article should not be followed as a present-day offer.
This page records that historical promotion and explains how to check an offer now. It does not provide a free game file, redemption code or a verified current giveaway. Prices, editions and regional availability can change, so check the store directly.
Check whether an offer is genuine today
Open the official Epic Games product listing or Rockstar’s GTA V store page. Confirm the exact edition, platform, price and any promotion end date shown for your account and region. A discounted price, free weekend, subscription entitlement and permanent giveaway are different types of access.
Follow an offer through the official store and its account flow. Do not assume a search result, third-party banner or copied “free download” headline reflects an active deal. Check whether an offer includes the game itself or only an add-on. This guide does not require you to share account credentials with this website.
If you already claimed or purchased GTA V
Sign in to the store account used for the claim or purchase and check its game library and transaction history. Confirm that the entitlement belongs to that account before purchasing another copy. If the game is missing, consult that store’s official account and purchase support; avoid sending passwords, recovery codes or receipts to unrelated download sites.
The available PC edition and system requirements should be checked separately. See our GTA V PC guide for Enhanced and Legacy checks before installation. A past entitlement should not be used to promise every edition, every device or all future content without checking the store’s terms.
Why a “PC free APK” is the wrong installer
An APK is an Android package, not the native Windows GTA V installer. An Android emulator does not convert GTA V’s PC game files into an official mobile release. Renaming or extracting an APK, OBB or 7z archive also does not establish a game licence. Our file-format guide explains that distinction.
Frequently asked questions
Can I claim the May 2020 giveaway now? The published claiming deadline has passed. Check a current official store listing for any separate offer; the old announcement does not grant a new claim today.
Is GTA V permanently free for everyone? A time-limited giveaway is not permanent free availability for all users. Any current price or entitlement must be confirmed through the official store.
Does this giveaway provide an Android APK? No. The historical PC store offer should not be described as an Android APK release. Read the GTA V Android platform guide for mobile claims.
Was the giveaway personally tested for this article? No. This is a source-based explanation of Epic’s published announcement, not a personal redemption test or a promise of present-day availability.
