RARLAB lists RAR for Android separately from Windows WinRAR. If you need an archive app on an Android device, start with the Android product linked by RARLAB rather than assuming a Windows WinRAR installer is an APK.

Choose the right platform download
The RARLAB downloads page distinguishes WinRAR for Windows, RAR for Android and other operating-system releases. Follow the Android entry for Android use and check the current release details there. A page calling an unrelated package “WinRAR APK” has not established publisher identity.
Archive extraction is not APK installation
An archive tool opens or extracts supported compressed files. An APK is an Android installation package, even though its container can be inspected as an archive. Extracting it does not perform the operating system’s app installation. Likewise, changing a RAR or ZIP filename to APK does not turn arbitrary contents into a valid application.
Before opening a downloaded archive
Check the sender or publisher and the purpose of the archive. Look at the contents before opening executables or installing extracted packages. An archive app cannot prove that everything inside a compressed file is safe or licensed for redistribution. Be wary of a bundle advertised as a paid app unlock without identifying its rights holder and release source.
Storage, passwords and extraction errors
If extraction fails, record whether the archive is incomplete, unsupported, password-protected or larger than available storage allows. Obtain a password from the legitimate sender when appropriate; installing another APK does not establish permission to access private files. Keep the original archive until you have confirmed that the required files extracted correctly.
When your goal is installing an Android app
Use the publisher’s actual installation package and the format-specific instructions. Split packages can require all components, while a generic archive extractor is not a substitute for an installer. Our APK format guide and installation troubleshooting guide explain those cases. We have not tested or scanned an unidentified file offered as a WinRAR APK.
Check archive contents and the extraction destination
Identify the files inside the archive and the folder selected for output before treating extraction as complete. The compressed source, extracted files and any app installation are separate objects and actions.
The publisher’s RAR Android listing documents archive extraction and basic file management, including folders, copying and moving. It supports creating RAR/ZIP and unpacking multiple archive formats. That capability list does not establish the condition or contents of a particular download.
- Keep the original identifiable. Note its actual filename and storage location. Do not rename its extension to make it resemble an APK.
- Inspect the intended contents. Compare names and file types with what the legitimate sender says the archive contains. Nested folders may mean that the needed file is one level below the output directory.
- Choose a distinct destination you can locate. Record the folder and whether it is on internal or removable storage. A separate folder avoids confusing new output with older files carrying similar names.
- Read any error before repeating the operation. A missing-part, password or output-access message calls for different evidence. Do not assume that a disappearing progress indicator proves success.
- Open the destination independently. Check the required filenames and contents there. If they are missing, revisit the selected folder and any nested directories before deleting the archive or extracting repeatedly into several locations.
What if output exists but is not the expected app?
A document, media file or another archive is not an Android installer merely because it arrived in a download bundle. If the result includes an APK, confirm its source and installation requirements separately. Do not install every extracted executable to discover what it does.
Should I delete the source as soon as extraction ends?
First verify the files you actually need and preserve any important originals. Extraction, moving output and removing the compressed source are separate decisions. If an important file cannot be found, keep the source available while tracing the output location.
