For Bitwarden on Android, match access to the feature you intend to use: the password autofill service, passkey provider and accessibility-based quick-action tiles are separate choices. A missing suggestion does not mean every available permission should be enabled. First identify the failing feature and confirm that you installed the intended publisher’s app.

Understand the access choices
Bitwarden’s app settings reference lists the Android autofill controls separately. Choosing Bitwarden as the preferred service allows the relevant credential-filling integration. Passkey management opens Android’s provider settings. Accessibility is associated with quick-action tiles. Read the Android confirmation for the particular choice rather than treating these as a single “allow all” step.
| What you want | Documented setting to investigate | Check before changing it |
|---|---|---|
| Password suggestions in a login field | Autofill services | The selected provider and the app or website being filled. |
| Suggestions in the keyboard | Inline suggestions | Android and keyboard support for inline autofill. |
| Bitwarden as a passkey provider | Passkey management | The intended Android provider selection. |
| Quick-action tiles | Use accessibility | Whether this specific method is needed and supported. |
Start with the intended autofill method
The Android autofill guide directs users to Settings → Autofill and then Autofill services to choose the provider. It describes inline suggestions in a compatible keyboard and popup suggestions over an input field. At review, inline requires Android 11 or later and a supporting keyboard; popup autofill requires Android 8 or later.
Those feature requirements do not establish the minimum version for every current Bitwarden app release. Check the actual app’s device eligibility separately. If your keyboard does not support inline suggestions, repeatedly granting unrelated permissions will not add that keyboard capability.
Treat accessibility as a separate decision
Bitwarden documents accessibility for quick-action tiles. Its current Android guide also says Android 17 Advanced Protection prevents access to that service, so those tiles will not work in that situation; another autofill method can be used. Do not turn off a device protection just to follow a tutorial that assumes a different setup.
If you do not need the tile method, establish whether the regular autofill route meets your needs before considering broader access. This guide does not instruct you to accept every access prompt, change restricted settings or enable unknown services.
Check the destination before filling credentials
Bitwarden’s URI matching explanation distinguishes website addresses from Android application package names. It warns that an app obtained outside trusted distribution can imitate a familiar package name. A suggested login is therefore not proof that the receiving app is genuine.
Verify the destination independently. A familiar icon, a matching name and an autofill suggestion are insufficient evidence on their own. Our APK source checklist covers the earlier source check. Never paste a master password or recovery code into a public support form to demonstrate the problem.
If suggestions still do not appear
- Record whether the issue affects a website, an installed app or the quick-action tile.
- Confirm the intended vault account and the saved login item without sharing its secrets.
- Check the chosen autofill method and supported keyboard where relevant.
- Compare a second legitimate destination you are authorized to use, without changing all settings at once.
- Report the exact environment and the result to Bitwarden support.
The Android troubleshooting page separates autofill-service and accessibility problems. Use the section for your selected method and actual device. Manufacturer-specific settings shown there should not be presented as universal Android menu paths. A failed comparison alone does not prove that battery management or the keyboard caused the fault.
No autofill in one Android app: narrow the failure
First determine whether no suggestion appears, or whether a suggestion appears without the expected login. These are different observations. Check the app’s identity before attempting to fill it, and use a non-sensitive example when recording the problem.
- Confirm the vault is available. Open Bitwarden and confirm the intended login item is present. Do not disclose the item’s password or export the vault for this check.
- Focus the actual sign-in field. Record whether the missing interface is a keyboard suggestion, popup or quick-action tile. A blank screen before the sign-in form loads is not the same observation.
- Check provider and method. Review the Autofill services setting and the method requirements above. If inline suggestions alone are missing, note the keyboard and its inline support.
- Check the item’s destination. Bitwarden’s Android troubleshooting reference distinguishes a website URI for a browser from an application package name for an installed app. Inspect the saved association without broadening matching to unrelated destinations. A matching name does not authenticate an app.
- Compare carefully. If another legitimate login form works, record that contrast. It helps support investigate the particular app, form or match; it does not establish a universal keyboard or battery fault.
- Escalate with the smallest useful report. Include the destination app, versions, chosen autofill method and whether the interface or only the matching item is absent.
Should I change battery or overlay settings immediately?
No. The publisher separates device-specific overlay issues from accessibility-service interruptions. Use only the applicable instructions for your phone and chosen method. Do not switch off device-wide protections, enable every service or apply another manufacturer’s menu path merely because one app does not display a suggestion.
Is manual copying a way to prove the app is genuine?
No. A successful paste establishes neither the destination’s identity nor the correctness of its package. Resolve the source and account context first. If you choose a supported manual entry route, keep credentials out of public diagnostic material.
Single-app troubleshooting section reviewed 23 October 2026. No credentials were used and no autofill test is claimed.
Does autofill access unlock my account?
Choosing an autofill provider is not an account-recovery procedure. If you cannot access the vault, resolve that issue through the publisher’s account-access guidance before diagnosing an absent suggestion. Avoid clearing data as an experiment when you have not confirmed how you will sign in again.
How should I document a problem?
List the phone model, Android version, Bitwarden release, keyboard or browser, chosen method and exact symptom. Use a blank or redacted login screen if support needs an image. Keep passwords, authenticator codes, account recovery details and private vault contents out of screenshots. For separate app-installation issues, visit the Android guide directory.
