You can save an APK file on a PC through a browser when the publisher makes it available. Saving the file does not install an Android app in Windows or macOS. An APK is an Android package; a native desktop installer or supported web app is a different product.

Choose the app’s supported desktop option first
Find the developer’s official downloads or support page. If there is a Windows, Mac or browser edition, check whether it meets your needs before adding another environment. Do not assume a file marked “APK for PC” is the developer’s desktop release. For example, our CapCut PC guide separates native desktop software from its Android edition.
Download a file without installing it
Use the publisher’s source when possible, inspect the real download destination and save the file where you can identify it later. A browser extension or APK extractor is not required merely to save a publisher-provided file. Do not enter your Google password into a third-party extractor to obtain an app. Our Google Play download guide explains why store installation and raw APK export differ.
Windows Subsystem for Android is an outdated default suggestion
Microsoft states that Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore are no longer available in the Microsoft Store from March 5, 2025. See Microsoft’s support notice. An old tutorial describing that route as a current supported setup can mislead readers. Do not substitute an unidentified subsystem installer from a download page.
If you choose an Android environment
Check the environment vendor’s current supported operating systems, hardware requirements and installation documentation. Then confirm that the app publisher supports or permits the intended use. Some apps rely on services, device features or account checks that an environment may not provide. An APK being imported successfully does not guarantee that every feature or purchase will work.
Compatibility and source checks
Match the Android version, processor architecture and package format to the environment. Split packages may need all required components rather than a single extracted base APK. Keep the environment and your host computer updated; investigate security warnings instead of disabling protection to force installation. Review our APK and app-bundle explanation for format differences.
When something fails
Record whether the file did not download, the package did not install, or the app opened and failed. Those stages need different checks. Use the APK diagnosis guide to narrow the issue. We have not tested every emulator, app or computer and do not promise that a particular APK will run on your PC.
