Identify which Chromecast device you have before asking whether it can install apps. A casting receiver and Chromecast with Google TV do not have the same app workflow. The earlier blanket answer that no Chromecast device can install apps was incomplete.
Chromecast with Google TV has an app interface
Google’s official Chromecast with Google TV app-installation guide shows finding apps through the remote or Apps tab. Use the supported device listing and installation options. That does not mean every Android phone APK works on the device or that an unofficial file is authenticated.
Casting is different from installing an Android package
For a casting setup, you select content in a compatible app or browser and send it to the receiver. You are not installing the phone’s APK on the receiver as part of that action. Google’s casting guidance explains supported apps and browser casting. Check the exact model’s help when its controls differ.
Choose the route the publisher supports
Look for either a TV app listing or a documented casting feature for the service. A missing casting button, an unavailable TV app and an APK installation error are different problems. An app filename containing “Chromecast” cannot establish hardware or service support.
What if you have an APK file?
For an Android-based TV environment, evaluate whether the developer supports that build on the device. Confirm Android requirements, signing identity, package components and remote-control usability. Account and media access remain separate
Installing a TV app or connecting a cast session does not grant a paid subscription, bypass a login or prove permission to copy the media. Use the service’s supported account and playback options. Avoid pages presenting an APK as a universal way to unlock every streaming service.
Before trying a fix
Record your device model, whether it has a Google TV app interface, the source app and the exact failure. Check supported updates and the publisher’s help first.
