Use Mozilla’s official Android download route and confirm current platform support before selecting a Firefox APK. An old package that installs is not proof that the browser still receives updates for that device.
Check the current Android requirement
Mozilla Support currently lists Android 8.0 or later for Firefox on Android and points users to its download route or Google Play. If the store does not show Firefox for the device, Mozilla notes that compatibility may be the reason. Do not treat every absent listing as a broken download link.
Understand the support change
Mozilla’s platform-change announcement states that Firefox 144 raised the Android minimum to 8.0 and ended 32-bit x86 support. Firefox 143 was the last version for affected older platforms and would stop receiving updates after 144’s release. The announcement explicitly distinguishes 32-bit ARM, which continued to be supported, from 32-bit x86.
| Question | Evidence to check |
|---|---|
| Will the current release install? | Current release requirements and store eligibility. |
| Is an older installed version still maintained? | Mozilla’s platform support and release information. |
| Which architecture applies? | Supported Android ABI, not just a 32-bit or 64-bit label. |
A source-first installation checklist
- Open Mozilla’s support or official download page independently.
- Choose the intended Android browser and release channel.
- Compare the requirement with the phone’s Android version.
- If choosing a direct APK, check the release and architecture rather than renaming the file.
- Keep the old installation and recovery options available while checking an update failure.
Our ARM64 and ARM guide explains why the processor marketing name alone is not enough. For multiple-file formats, see APK, XAPK and APKM.
Should I use an old Firefox APK on an unsupported phone?
An archived package can establish that an old release exists, but it does not extend Mozilla’s maintenance commitment. Review supported options for the device before using an outdated browser for sensitive accounts. This is a support-status distinction, not a benchmark comparison.
What if installation still fails?
Record the exact release, source, Android version and error. Separate an unsupported platform from a damaged or incomplete download. Use the installation guide for the latter investigation. Do not disable protection simply because another website advertises a “fixed” browser build.
