“Download Failed: Not Purchased” on Android? Account & App Checks

A “not purchased” message can concern an app’s store entitlement or its own download process; the words alone do not identify the cause. Record the exact message and whether it appears in Google Play, the installer or inside the app. An APK installation does not itself grant a purchase or subscription.

Confirm the genuine app and store account

Identify the app, developer, installation source and account used for the original purchase. Google’s reinstall guidance says to use the same Google account when reinstalling an app bought on Google Play. That guidance applies to the relevant Play purchase, not every unrelated store or publisher subscription.

Check the transaction and available install option in your own account. If a purchase is missing or a different account is signed in, follow the genuine store’s support process before buying again. Do not share receipts, login codes or recovery information with an APK download gate.

Separate the app file from service entitlement

An APK contains Android software; it does not establish ownership of a paid product. A separately supplied data or OBB file also does not create a licence or subscription. Android’s expansion-file documentation explains that some apps use additional data, but an arbitrary file copy is not evidence of a supported fix.

Use the publisher’s documented download or restore-purchase process for the exact app and platform. A purchase on another platform should not be assumed transferable unless the product explicitly supports it.

Check other errors before changing the installation

If the message occurs while downloading extra data, note the connection, available storage and app version along with the exact error. Those details help support determine whether the issue is access, a missing file or another failure. Do not rename a package or uninstall as a universal solution.

Preserve local data before clearing storage or reinstalling. Our download guide and installation guide cover different stages. Keep security checks enabled while investigating.

Frequently asked questions

Will a mod APK prove I bought an app? No. A modified package is not a transaction or entitlement record, and no bypass file is provided here.

Must I purchase a Google Play app again on another Android device? Check the same purchasing account and current supported app listing using Google’s official guidance. Do not assume a different platform or store uses the same entitlement.

Does every “not purchased” error have one fix? No. The app, source and stage of the error matter. Contact the genuine developer or store with the relevant details.

This is source-based diagnostic guidance, not an account-specific decision or a guarantee of restored access.
