Get CamScanner through its official publisher or app-store route. An APK file is an Android installation package; the format does not mean Premium features are included. This guide explains source checks and a careful document-scanning workflow. We have not independently tested a modified CamScanner build.

Use CamScanner on Google Play or follow the Android route on the CamScanner website. Check the app and publisher identity before installing. Device requirements, version details and purchase options should be checked on the current listing rather than copied from an old APK download table.
Free download and paid features are different
The store listing includes purchase information. Installing the app does not establish that every tool or subscription benefit is free. Check the feature and price shown inside the genuine app before agreeing to a purchase. This page does not distribute or certify a “Premium unlocked” package.
Protect documents before scanning and sharing
Start with a non-sensitive sample page. Position it flat, use even lighting and check the crop and page order. Review the resulting image or PDF before sharing; automatic cropping or OCR may need correction. Never assume that recognised text is exact.
For identity documents, contracts or other private records, consider who needs the scan, what information can be omitted and where the document will be stored. Review app permissions and sharing settings. A download-site safety label is not a privacy audit of an app or a guarantee about cloud storage.
Scan to PDF when a private document must not be uploaded
If the requirement is “no upload,” first verify where the chosen scanning workflow stores and processes the document. Do not assume that a scanner is local-only because it can capture a page without an internet connection. A pending upload or later account synchronization can be a separate stage.
This guide does not certify CamScanner, Google Drive or another named app as an offline-only scanner. Google’s Drive scanning instructions, for example, describe saving scans to Drive. A cloud workflow may be appropriate for some tasks, but it does not meet a strict “never send this document to a service” requirement simply because the capture happened on your phone.
- Confirm the requirement. Ask the document owner whether cloud storage, online OCR or third-party processing is permitted. An encrypted upload is still an upload.
- Use a non-sensitive sample first. Inspect the capture, OCR, save, account-sync and share steps. Read whether a feature requires remote processing or saving into an online account.
- Check the actual destination. A named device folder and a cloud account are different locations. Open the resulting file in a local file view and identify which copy is being shared.
- Review the publisher’s current policy and settings. Look for processing, retention, automatic backup and deletion information. Google’s Data safety explanation notes that disclosures are developer-provided and have defined collection/sharing exceptions; one summary label is not a technical guarantee of zero transmission.
- Do not use private material for an unverified experiment. If the tool’s documentation cannot establish the required local-only behavior, choose an organization-approved method or ask for an approved alternative before scanning.
Does airplane mode prove a scan will never leave the device?
No. Completing capture while offline only describes that moment. It does not establish what the app may sync later, what an already enabled backup does or how an optional OCR feature works. This article reports no network inspection and offers no zero-upload certification.
Is cropping enough to hide private content?
Treat cropping as composition unless the export’s handling of removed content is verified. Prefer capturing only the required information and use an approved redaction workflow when disclosure must be prevented. Inspect the final PDF, text layer and recipient before sharing it.

Separate Android installation problems from app features or purchases. For an install error, record the message and check storage and compatibility. Use our Android APK installation guide.
